8 Types of Warehouses Currently

When people hear the word “warehouse,” many immediately think of a dusty, cold, and dark building, filled with racks and racks for boxes and crates. In fact, the modern warehouse is a complex that works, is clean, bright, and helps keep our economy moving. Here are 6 very different types of warehouses in use today.

1. DISTRIBUTION CENTER

Many people confuse warehouse with distribution center and use these terms interchangeably. While a warehouse can store items for long periods of time, a distribution center holds products for short periods of time and sees a much higher rate of product arrival and departure.

Distribution centers are very customer-centric and are often located close to where the end users live, so they receive products of good quality quickly. A distribution center can also provide value-added services, such as simple product pairing, picking and packaging, or mixing or packaging services. Because a distribution center offers more services than a warehouse, they are also equipped with much more advanced technology to facilitate the processes that take place within.

2. PICK, PACK & SHIP STORE

In a warehouse, picking, packing and shipping is the process that takes place after an order is received, either from an online store or a physical store. The warehouse receives a list of selected products and either humans or the system automatically finds the products in stock. They are then packaged for shipping, labeled and shipped to the customer.

3. SMALL SMART WORDS

A smart warehouse uses automation systems and interconnected technologies to receive products, take them out, pick them up on orders, ship them, and keep accurate inventory counts. Smart warehouses use technology to increase production, reduce errors, and minimize the number of people needed to operate the warehouse.

4. SMALL COLD STORAGE

Cold storage does what its name suggests: it stores temperature-sensitive items at low temperatures. Cold storage allows medicines, perishable foods, plants, cosmetics, artwork, and candles to last longer. Refrigeration warehouses also use refrigerated transport to transport goods to and from.

5. STORAGE ON DEMAND

One growing trend in warehousing is on-demand storage. On-Demand Warehousing connects businesses with warehouse space needs (temporary, seasonal, or to handle a spike in revenue) with warehouses with excess space.

6. BOND STORE

Also known as a “customs” warehouse, a bonded warehouse is a building in which imported goods can be stored, manipulated, or subjected to manufacturing operations without paying taxes for five years from the date of purchase. Accepted. Taxes on imported goods can be very high, so a bonded warehouse allows the product to be sold first, and then pays the tax from the sale.
