Elevator SAFETY DEVICES

A basic elevator must have a full range of safety devices to ensure the safety of users almost absolutely. Safety components must be adequate and always in the best working condition, subject to regular maintenance and inspection, and are also required by state regulations.

Governor elevator

The overspeed controller, also known as the mechanical brake, is an extremely important part of an elevator. The mechanical brake will prevent the elevator from falling freely, helping the cabin to stick to the guide rail in case the elevator breaks the load cable or runs faster than the design speed. With the Pizzato overspeed control switch, it will help to avoid unfortunate accidents even in the worst case – cable breakage.

All elevators used for the purpose of carrying people must have an overspeed control device and must be in good condition to be allowed to operate.

Auto Rescue

Elevator automatic rescue device (Automatic Rescue Device – ARD) – is a device that helps the elevator run back to the floor and open the door to let people in the cabin out in the event of a sudden power failure. At that time, the power source that helps the ladder to operate is a reserve source

Backup power for ARD can be from battery or UPS. Currently, UPS is more commonly used due to its high stability and good durability. The UPS will be automatically charged by the electrical cabinet system, so to maintain the best state to help maintain its life, the UPS should also be discharged periodically.

Discharge the UPS with power failure simulation – run the ladder and turn off the grid power supply to the ladder, then the ARD will run to help the UPS discharge the load.

Ladder door safety sensor device

As a device installed at the elevator door, including two types called bar photocell and point photocell, it automatically detects obstacles and automatically reopens the door to avoid jamming hands, feet or objects into the elevator door. Currently popular is the bar form.

Photocell bar has a height close to the height of the elevator door, so it allows to protect almost 100% of the opening space of the elevator door.

Pizzato stroke switch

As electrical switches are installed at both ends of the stroke (under the piston and above near the engine room floor), it prevents the ladder from colliding with the pit or the engine room floor.

All of the above technologies and devices are applied with the aim of ensuring maximum safety for users even in serious incidents. However, to achieve the highest efficiency, it is required that those parts or the entire ladder need to be fully and regularly installed and maintained, moreover each user needs to equip themselves with the knowledge, skills to use elevators safely to protect yourself.
